Now the story --
that
you get for free.  I'd been following Meat Loaf's career since my
Rocky Horror
days.  (A whole
other
story.)  I'd seen him in concert several times and gone to a few fan events, my favorite being a VH1 special taped at the Beacon Theater in Manhattan.  They had called fans who were in the area to be the audience.  Before the actual concert filming, we did takes that were to be inserted during editing later, like standing and applauding.  (Thought it was all spontaneous, did you?  Me too.)  And some advice to those who think wearing black will make you look thinner in a televised audience -- it will only make you disappear
into
the audience, as I found out when I watched the show at a later date.  The concert was awesome!  There were a few retakes, which was fine with the fans, as it extended our stay at the theater.  Afterwards, while waiting for our car at the parking garage, the band walked by and we said brilliant things like "hello" and "great job!" to which they graciously replied "hello" and "thank you!"  But that's not when I got the CD signed.  I told you that story to tell you this one.  Again finding out through the fan club grape vine, Meat Loaf was having a CD signing in Manhattan to promote "Welcome to the Neighborhood."  I took the train in from Queens, so I could buy the CD and get in line early (yep, there was a line already at 3 pm for a 5 pm signing --
New York is nothing but lines
), and my husband met me there after work.  And I even remembered my camera so I could have a memory of the moment.  While I don't fawn over celebrities, I do admire some, and in a way, it's always exciting to meet one.  Anyway, when my turn came, I'm sure I chatted some, but it was so long ago, I don't remember what small talk I blathered.  He signed.  I asked if I could take a picture.  He said yes, my husband got the camera ready, we posed, and this part I do remember --
the
camera did not work.
No flash.  No click.  No anything.  Meat Loaf suggested we try it again.  My husband messed with the camera.  Again,  Nothing,  Then Meat Loaf crossly suggested something regarding the camera.  (No, not
that
.  Although he was getting irritated, he actually made a technical suggestion.)  And then...NOTHING.  Wanting the ground to swallow me up, I quickly thanked him for his time and made my exit.  Good thing he signed the CD first.  I don't think he would have felt the "Love" after that.
