Description
The USS Constitution is a 44 Gun Frigate originally built in 1797. This model is constructed by hand in part with wood from the starboard cathead section of the original ship. The scale is 1:96, using plank over frame building techniques and depicts the USS Constitution as it appeared after the 1865 refitting. All fittings are either brass or wood and the ship, including all rigging, is entirely to scale. Approximately 350 hours were necessary to construct the model which was completed in 1978. Peter Bauer III is the builder. "Old Ironsides" is the oldest commissioned ship in the US Navy. The music for the Star Spangled Banner is provided courtesy of the US Navy Band Sea Chanters. This ship is contained in a Lexan case that measures 49" L x 39" H x 16 1/2" W. The ship comes with a letter of authenticity signed by the builder.
There is one other Peter Bauer hand constructed model in existence housed in a Naval Museum on the east coast. It is built with wood from the USS Constitution but is depicted from a different retrofit.
The seller will "white glove" ship the model by private carrier upon reciept of a non-refundable deposit to the buyer anywhere in the continental United States. The buyer will physically inspect the ship and accept or reject upon physical inspection. Acceptance will be accomplished with a wire transfer into a specified seller account at which point the ship will be delivered to the buyer. For buyers outside the United States, upon reciept of the full purchase price, the seller will hand deliver the ship to the buyer with proper photo identification at a US based internationally registered airport within the continental US. If the buyer requires inspection of the ship a time for inspection can be mutually agreed upon.
